Lochalsh, Scottish Highlands
Famous for the elegant and graceful Skye Bridge, now toll-free, Kyle of Lochalsh, the main town in the area, has beautiful views of the Isle of Skye. The Kyle Line brings trains into Kyle of Lochalsh from Inverness, and often includes steam excursions. Along the coast running north, there are the villages of Badicaul, Erbusaig, Duirinish and the beautiful village of Plockton. To the east along the shores of Loch Alsh itself, there are the villages of Reraig, and slightly inland, Balmacara and Auchtertyre. Loch Alsh then meets Loch Long and Loch Duich at the village of Dornie where the famous Eilean Donan Castle stands. There are several settlements on Loch Duich - Inverinate, Sheil Bridge and Ratagan are the best-known, renowned for views of the famous Five Sisters of Kintail. From Ratagan there is the original "Road to the Isles" leading to Glenelg near where there is a small ferry to Kylerhea on Skye.
